Doha MUN 2027

Eight committees

Take your seat

Each committee runs in one working language and opens two topics. Study guides are published with your assignment.

  • 440 Seats
English Standard

General Assembly First Committee

Disarmament and International Security

The largest committee and the one where procedure bites hardest. Expect long speakers lists, competing draft resolutions, and a chair who will not let an unsubstantiated claim pass.

Topics on the agenda

  1. Regulating autonomous weapons systems under international humanitarian law
  2. Preventing an arms race in outer space
70 Seats Chaired by: to be announced
English Introductory

General Assembly Third Committee

Social, Humanitarian and Cultural

The recommended first committee. Topics are human-scale, the debate rewards clear argument over technical vocabulary, and the chairs are briefed to teach procedure as they go.

Topics on the agenda

  1. Protecting the right to education during protracted displacement
  2. Countering online harassment of young people without curtailing free expression
70 Seats Chaired by: to be announced
English Standard

Economic and Social Council

Development, finance and coordination

Where SDG 17 is not a theme but the actual mandate. Delegates who arrive with numbers — budgets, debt ratios, disbursement timetables — run this room.

Topics on the agenda

  1. Financing the Sustainable Development Goals: debt relief and fiscal space
  2. Closing the global digital skills gap
60 Seats Chaired by: to be announced
English Introductory

United Nations Environment Programme

Environment and climate

The committee closest to home: water security in an arid Gulf is not an abstraction here, and delegations are expected to know their own country's consumption figures.

Topics on the agenda

  1. Water security in arid regions
  2. Regulating plastics across the full life cycle
60 Seats Chaired by: to be announced
English Advanced

Security Council

International peace and security

Fifteen seats, the veto, and a crisis that may be updated mid-session. Applications for this committee are competitive and ask for prior conference experience.

Topics on the agenda

  1. The situation in the Sahel
  2. Maritime security and freedom of navigation
15 Seats Chaired by: to be announced
Arabic Standard

اللجنة الثانية للجمعية العامة

Economic and Financial — conducted in Arabic

A full General Assembly committee run entirely in Arabic, with Arabic drafting, Arabic points of order and Arabic resolutions. Not a translation of the English room — its own agenda.

Topics on the agenda

  1. Transition to a knowledge economy in the Arab states
  2. Financing climate adaptation
60 Seats Chaired by: to be announced
Arabic Standard

مجلس حقوق الإنسان

Human Rights Council — conducted in Arabic

Arabic-language human rights debate, with the procedural vocabulary taught in Arabic from the first session. Study guide and resolution templates are Arabic-first.

Topics on the agenda

  1. Protecting migrant workers
  2. The right to mental health for young people
55 Seats Chaired by: to be announced
Arabic and English Introductory

Youth Forum on SDG 17

Partnerships — bilingual floor

The conference theme's own committee, and the only room where both languages are in use at once: you may speak in either, and the chairs summarise across. Built for first-time delegates and for anyone who wants the harder version of listening.

Topics on the agenda

  1. Youth partnerships for the Sustainable Development Goals
  2. Education for global citizenship
50 Seats Chaired by: to be announced

Getting your committee

You state a preference, the secretariat allocates

Your school submits ranked committee preferences for the whole delegation, not one per student. Allocation then balances three things at once: the preferences, the number of experienced delegates a committee needs to function, and the working language each delegate is comfortable debating in — which is not always the language they are strongest in on paper.

The Security Council is the one exception: it is applied for individually and asks for prior conference experience, because fifteen delegates holding a veto is not the room in which to find out what a veto does.
