Doha MUN 2027

What this is

A conference students run

Doha MUN is organised by Student Affairs and Community Engagement within Pre-University Education at Qatar Foundation, and it is led by students at every level that matters. Students chair the committees, write the study guides, keep the speakers list, rule on points of order, and close the session. Adults handle logistics and safeguarding. The floor belongs to the delegates.

Debate

You are handed a country, not an opinion. Learning to argue a position you did not choose is the whole exercise, and it is the part that transfers to everything else.

Draft

Resolutions are written in the room, in clauses, with people whose instructions contradict yours. Nothing teaches precise writing faster than a delegate hunting your loopholes.

Decide

Amendments, points of information, a vote that can go against you. Delegates leave knowing what it costs to get thirty people to agree to one sentence.

Two languages, not one and a translation

Arabic committees are committees

Most bilingual conferences mean an English conference with interpretation. This one does not. Two committees run entirely in Arabic — Arabic study guides, Arabic drafting, Arabic points of order, Arabic resolutions — with their own agendas, not translations of the English rooms. The Youth Forum runs both at once and the chairs summarise across.

That costs more to run than interpretation does, and it is the point: a student who can only argue policy in a second language has learned half of what this exercise is for.

Who stands behind it

Pre-University Education, Qatar Foundation

Doha MUN is organised by Student Affairs and Community Engagement within Pre-University Education at Qatar Foundation. That means the safeguarding, the venue, the insurance and the budget are institutional, and the programme is not.

Students chair the committees, write the study guides, set the agendas, keep the speakers list, rule on points of order and close the sessions. Adults handle logistics and welfare. The distinction is deliberate and it is the reason the conference is worth attending: nobody learns to run a room they are not allowed to run.
